Croft 37 are delighted to announce the safe arrival of their first lamb of the year, safely delivered on Saturday March 27 sometime in the early morning. Mother and son are both well.
Thank you, he's a little stunner isn't he. Our next milestone will be the first black Hebridean lamb - when that will be goodness knows as Hebrideans are notoriously bashful at tupping time and tend to operate in the dark! Today we have a bit of snow and ice - sneachd na uan (snow of the lambs), but the sun is shining brilliantly. A good day to be outside I think!
I like 'sneachd na uan'. I met a farm-hand in Inverness-shire who calls it 'peewit snow', for similar reasons. Sure enough, when we had a holiday in the Monadhliath Mountains one April, there were blizzards and dozens of lapwings. Please post pictures of the Hebridean lamb when it makes it appearance!
