Photocall

Here's the celebrity turkey poult, posing for the camera.

This little one will not end up on anyone's table ever, as the only hatch from a clutch of 12 eggs it is much too valuable, so we will keep it as a permanent resident. Now we need to find a name, so I'm going to have a little competition...... if you can think of anything suitable (no Christmas names please!) I will offer a piece of hand-woven cloth, or some fibre as a present to the winning name. Just e-mail me with your suggestions. No closing date, just carry on till something appropriate turns up.

This week the island sheep have been having their wool sheared. Today was the turn of the south side, which is the lighthouse area, so the sheep living on this side of the common grazings were gathered into the fank which is at the side of the peat road. Everyone except the lambs are sheared, inspected, tagged and then released back onto the grazings.

Hi Sheila how are you good news about ur wee turkey.
How about Bernard or Mathew as names for the turkey thats if it is a boy if its a girl what about Shoenag or Joan.XXX Have a nice weekend

Hi Nina, Thanks for that! Both names are good, and both can be converted into girls names in case it turns out to be a hen - Bernadette or Matilda - so you're on the right lines. The last norfolk black we had we called Wally as he was the only one amongst a crowd of bronze turkeys and it was like the childrens books "Where's Wally" trying to spot him. However, this one doesn't look like a Wally, though he does act a bit thick sometimes...

Hi Sheila, You could call it BOOTIFULL (as it says in the Bernard Mathews advert).Paxo as in paxo stuffing. Crissac after your sister in law oh im getting carried away now. Will look forward to seeing the turkey soon.

How about Worsted, the thinking is that the turkey is a norfolk black and this is a town in norfolk where this fabric was first woven and you and JF are weavers - you see it all fits!

thats an interesting one - thanks.
BTW - let me know how you want Daisy the sheeps' wool spun - fine or chunky? Have been trying to get a photo of her but she has now adopted the ways of the Scalpay sheep and can be viewed only from a distance. However, she is looking very smart with her new coat coming through.

Hi
I'm new to your blog. I couldn't find your email address, so I hope it's okay to write here. My suggestion for a name is Wildly.

Love the new addition! How about Titus, it means "the safe one" which i thought was a bit funny/cute! Would love to come play with the sheep!

Thanks to both Shirley and Turtle - love both the names.

What a cute little turkey! I suggest a name that needs dome growing into...perhaps Maximilian or Benjamin for a male, and maybe Eloise or Elinor for a female

Maybe "Oscar" for Oscar Wilde--that way, whether s/he's a tom or not, a little gender-bending wouldn't be too strange!

I know it's a cliche, but the first name that comes to mind is Lucky.

I feel strongly for Alexander or Alexandra. Just the character I guess.

What a cute bairn -
I'm thinking Innis. Good Scot name - usually male but could go for a girl.
